Miriam Margolyes celebrates Charles Dickens’ 200th anniversary with her tour of Dickens’ Women in May 2012.

In the year of his 200th anniversary, the great writer Charles Dickens lives again thanks to Miriam Margolye’s vibrant one-woman stage show ‘Dickens’ Women’. A theatrical masterpiece brought to life with intelligence and passion by one of Britain's most acclaimed actresses.

Mrs Micawber from David Copperfield, Miss Havisham in Great Expectations or the grotesque Mrs Gramp in Martin Chuzzlewit are just some of the characters Margolyes brings to life on the show.

“Miriam Margolyes is just a little different to most actors. She has done Dickens and she has done porn. She has been a penguin, a sheepdog and a glow-worm. You may also know her as Professor Sprout from Harry Potter. Her CV is as unlikely as the women herself.”

“Dickens’ Women is a tour de force. When she appears as herself, Margolyes sparkles with intelligence and enthusiasm and is full of witty erudition about Dickens’ life and work. And when she inhabits his characters, you’d swear they lived and breathed in front of you.”

Bringing to life twenty-three of Charles Dickens' most affecting and colourful female (and male!) characters, Margolyes presents her powerful, comprehensive, and at times hilarious exposé of Dickens, his writing, and the real-life women who found themselves immortalised in his books.

"Learn about the greatest man who ever wrote prose in English. There's quite a lot of revelations and salacious surprises too." she laughs.

Following sell out performances in 2007, BAFTA-award winning actress Miriam Margolyes (Age of Innocence, Professor Sprout in Harry Potter and a regular guest on Graeme Norton) returns to New Zealand for an encore national tour of her one-woman tour-de-force, Dickens' Women.
